About Energy Opportunities
Like the geoscientists we serve, AAPG constantly strives to find new and innovative ways to operate, developing initiatives that prepare energy professionals to meet current and future challenges. We also seek partnerships with organizations who can help us to advance our mission and serve more people and organizations.
A recent initiative designed to serve the entire energy sector, combining the exploration and investment sectors, resulted in Energy Opportunities, an elite event portfolio connecting decision makers with the trends, technologies, and strategies for successful business and investment shaping the global energy future.
The concept started in AAPG’s Latin America and Caribbean Region but has expanded globally since 2020 attracting speakers and attendees from Australia, Africa, Europe and North America.
The inaugural Energy Opportunities Conference, held in Cartagena, Colombia in 2018, gathered decisionmakers in the exploration, investment, finance, legal, technology and government sectors of the energy sector. The 200 executive-level attendees represented 84 organizations and benefitted from plenary sessions and panels; an exhibition featuring new technologies and investment opportunities; and one-on-one meetings held in private conference rooms.
Energy Opportunities expanded globally and moved virtual space in 2020, offering a series of Executive Forums designed to help decisionmakers navigate the challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, low oil prices and the accelerated energy transition. More than 1200 people from 59 countries and connected to four Executive Forums held during 2020 and 2021.
The Energy Opportunities 2021 Conference took place online and featured two days of presentations and panel discussions along two primary themes: Geopolitical Context and Sustainable Development Framework and Resources and Technologies Fueling the Energy Transition. Additional components included Country Snapshots, highlighting licensing, bid rounds and investment opportunities and the U-Pitch Technology showcase, featuring cutting-edge, transformative technology and services.
The virtual conference drew 104 attendees and speakers representing 73 organizations and 18 countries. All appreciated the opportunity to connect online, but most expressed a strong desire to continue the conversation and deepen relationships at a face-to-face event.
The in-person connections resumed at Energy Opportunities Conference 2023, held in Mexico City in March 2023.
The Conference gathered 230 attendees, of which 46 percent held executive level positions ( CEOs, Directors, Vice Presidents, and Commissioners). Participants enjoyed a 2-day program featuring executive panels and luncheons, a New Technologies Showcase and Country Snapshots Sessions highlighting investment opportunities in oil and gas and mineral resources, and Business to Business (B2B) Sessions held throughout the conference in private meeting rooms.
Energy Opportunities continues to expand, with future activities planned in Europe, Asia and the Middle East in 2024 and 2025.
The premier event in 2024 is Energy Opportunities Conference Americas: From Transition to Transformation, coming to Panama City in September 2024.
